A legendary figure in the history of federal taxation, Dr. Laurence Woodworth was able to draw upon his encyclopedic knowledge of federal tax law and policy to explain even the most complex legislative proposals clearly and simply. Woodworth served on the Joint Committee on Taxation for 30 years before being appointed the Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Tax Policy by President Jimmy Carter. He also served his alma mater with distinction. He was a trustee of Ohio Northern from 1969-77, and was instrumental in establishing several endowed chairs at Â鶹´«Ã½. The Laurence Neal Woodworth Memorial Lectures in Federal Tax Law and Policy continues to bring distinguished scholars or professionals in tax law to campus. In recognition of his service at the federal level, he received the Alexander Hamilton Award, the highest decoration awarded by the Treasury Department. As Chief of Staff, Dr. Woodworth played an important role in shaping such landmark legislation at the Tax Reform Acts of 1969 and 1976 and the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) of 1974.
